Frequently Asked Questions - Investigations

The League of Paranormal Investigators answered a couple of frequently asked questions about their investigations. We advise that you read those first to get a better understanding of the procedures and what to expect. To request an investigation, you can fill out our online application.

Question: How much do you charge for an investigation?
Answer: Nothing. The League of Paranormal Investigators works free of charge. We are here to help people with their unexplained experiences and we do support ourselves by accepting donations and applying for research grants.

Question: Why do I need to fill out a client questionnaire before LPI will come to my place?
Answer: As part of our procedures, we need a filled out client questionnaire before we can take any further action. The questionnaire will help us to determine what the case is all about, the team size needed for the actual investigation, and it will help with the background research. The client questionnaire contains multiple pages which may seem to be overwhelming, but it is a small effort in comparison to the time the League of Paranormal Investigators puts into each individual case.

Question: I do not see a reason to fill out a client questionnaire but will you still come?
Answer: No, without a client questionnaire, there will be no investigation.

Question: Will my case be made public?
Answer: We respect your anonymity and do not publish any results without permission from you. For the cases on our web site we have permission and we still respect the client anonymity by not publishing names and addresses.

Question: I have my own evidence. Will that help with the case?
Answer: We get a lot of clients who have collected their own evidence. We are interested in this evidence but cannot consider it in the final conclusion due to the fact that this evidence is not collected according to our methodologies, using a controlled environment. Like the application sometimes, this evidence gives a good understanding of what is going on at your location.

Question: Can I tag along during one of your investigations?
Answer: We do not allow guests tagging along during any of our client related investigations. We do have public events where you can experience walking through a haunted location yourself.

Question: Can I invite friends and family during an investigation?
Answer: We cannot prohibit anybody who you want to invite. We strongly advise to keep the number of people during the actual investigation to a minimum because they might interfere with the evidence we are collecting. Also, a real investigation can take up to a couple of hours, or as long as an overnight investigation and can be experienced as being very boring for an outsider. In case we cannot perform our investigation, the Team Lead might consider canceling the investigation, rescheduling a new date or closing the case unsolved.

Question: Why do you work in the dark?
Answer: The reasons are more practical. Most volunteering members of the League of Paranormal Investigators have a normal day job. Also during the day the environmental changes can influence with each investigation. We are also using Infra red cameras and night vision cameras which will only work in the dark.

Question: My score is 25 what does that really mean?
Answer: The League of Paranormal Investigators works with a point system where we assign certain points to the evidence we collect during each investigation. Based on the total of points, we will define what kind of paranormal activity is going on at your location. With this system, we treat all of our investigations the same way when analyzing the evidence and drawing our conclusions.

Question: Will LPI remove unwanted spirits or ghosts from my property?
Answer: The League of Paranormal Investigators will conduct an investigation considering all possible factors and based on this will offer a suggested course of actions if removal is requested by the client. Our goal is to determine the type of activity you are experiencing and offer proof, information or explanation as to why the activity is there and what can be done about it.

Removal of unwanted spirits is a non scientific process that is deeply rooted in the client's specific spiritual and religious beliefs. The League of Paranormal Investigators is a scientific research organization, for this reason, we may recommend a course of action that the client can take or even an outside service. However, due to the many religions and spiritual paths offering so many various possibilities, we will not participate in the actual removal of ghosts or spirits if we do not have the religious background or hands on experience to handle the situation in harmony with the clients beliefs.
